SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC, ROUND 8. MELBOURNE REBELS v OTAGO HIGHLANDERS

Rugby in general

SATURDAY, APRIL 13th, 2024 AAMI Park MELBOURNE.

With a commanding victory over the Drua despite facing two red cards, the Rebels have notched up four wins in seven matches, propelling them to the fifth spot on the table, a position ahead of both the Reds and the Tahs. Who could have foreseen such a turn of events? However, to sustain their momentum and strengthen their bid for the finals, the Rebels must overcome their tendency for slow starts and deliver consistently strong performances, especially as they prepare to face the Highlanders.

Welcoming back Andrew Kellaway is a good sign for the Rebels, but they’ll be hampered by the loss of their captain Rob Leota, while Taniela Tupou will expected to bring the grunt when he comes off the bench later in the piece.

Rebels line-up

Andrew Kellaway, Lachie Anderson, Filipo Daugunu, David Feliuai, Darby Lancaster, Carter Gordon, Ryan Louwrens, Vaiolini Ekuasi, Maciu Nabolakasi, Josh Kemeny, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Tuaina Taii Tualima, Sam Talakai, Jordan Uelese, Matt Gibbon.

Reserves.  Alex Mafi, Isaac Kailea, Taniela Tupou, Angelo Smith, Daniel Maiava, Jack Maunder, Matt Proctor, Nick Jooste

Having had a restful bye week, the Highlanders are eager to solidify their position in the top eight.

All eyes will be on Ajay Faleafaga as he takes the starting position at No. 10 for the first time, underlining the significance of his role in the team. Additionally, the Highlanders will rely heavily on their All Blacks players to elevate their performance if they aim to secure their third victory of the season.

Referee: Paul Williams, Assistant Referees: Dan Waenga, Mike Winter

PREDICTION.

A close contest predicted in this one I feel. Both sides are very capable and it will come down to a piece of individual brilliance to win. Look for a points start for either side. The more points the better.
