Although still in the top eight, the Dolphins are eager to reverse their recent form and avoid a third consecutive loss as they host the in-form Rabbitohs at Kayo Stadium.

Entering this week’s opening Round 19 match fresh from a bye, the Dolphins face a rejuvenated Rabbitohs side, who have regained their confidence with five consecutive wins.

Origin Duty and Injury Absences

However, both teams will be without some of their brightest stars due to Origin duty. The Dolphins will miss Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Felise Kaufusi, who have been selected for Queensland, while Rabbitohs skipper Cam Murray has been picked for the NSW squad for the decider.

Additionally, the Rabbitohs will be without fullback Latrell Mitchell, who sustained a foot injury in his last game. On a positive note, forwards Tevita Tatola and Siliva Havili might be on track for a return.

Injury Concerns for Dolphins

Injury concerns for the Dolphins continue to mount, with hooker Jeremy Marshall-King sidelined long-term and back-up hooker Kurt Donoghoe suspended for three matches. On a brighter note, try-scoring winger Jack Bostock is set to return after missing their last loss due to concussion protocols.

Key Stats and Milestones

The Dolphins have won three of their five games at Kayo Stadium.

The Rabbitohs have outscored their opponents 28 tries to 12 in their past five games.

Dolphins forward Kenny Bromwich is set to make his 250th NRL appearance.

Rabbitohs winger Jacob Gagai has scored six tries in his eight NRL games.

The Dolphins have conceded at least 24 points in each of their last five matches.

Prediction.

What promised to be an exciting clash has been diminished by Origin selections and injuries, robbing both teams of key players including their fullbacks and key forwards.

The Dolphins have shown inconsistent form recently, while the Rabbitohs have surged under interim coach Ben Hornby. With Latrell Mitchell’s absence a significant blow to the Rabbitohs’ attack, this match is difficult to predict.

Dolphins players may also have extra motivation to prove themselves to coach Wayne Bennett, who will join the Rabbitohs next year.
