Well it’s over and we now know the Chiefs will play the Crusaders in Hamilton next Saturday night in the final of Super Rugby,2023.
I was so excited preparing to watch the semi between the Brumbies and the Chiefs.
I soon got over that. I turned the game off after 20 minutes of both sides kicking the ball. I thought I was tuned into a game of union, NOT AFL. IT WAS TERRIBLE.
I turned over to the league where the bottom placed team at least had a go and played in the spirit of the game.
I do not know if the union got better, well it had to .Right. It was a shame that 18,500 fans paid good money on a cold wet night to watch this rubbish, plus thousands of union fans on TV.
I realise the game was a semi final and both sides want to win ,but with talent on both sides, they kicked back and forth like a ping pong match.
The players and coaches should hang their heads in shame at this display. What a poor advertisement for Rugby Union and in a World Cup year as well. As union struggles against the other codes to attract fans to the game we have to watch this crap.
Well not me. As I said I turned over to the league. I have been involved in union for 65 years as a player, coach, and administrator and I have never been more disappointed in where the game is heading and then we get Team One v Team Four in a semi final play absolute rubbish.
I was lucky enough to play union in various parts of the world and luckily I never had to be involved in a dour game such as this. As a coach I would never have allowed this style to take place. NEVER. I would have pulled the player kicking good ball down field off the paddock. Even if it meant losing the match.
The forwards work their guts out to win the ball and then some clown kicks it away so you can defend and tackle.
PASS THE BALL AND RUN WITH IT! SIMPLE TO PLAY AND GREAT TO WATCH. AFTER ALL YOU ARE IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. NO FANS,NO JOB.
